So I decided to start this little blog where I could write all about my pregnancy for now – the good bad and the ugly – then keep you informed with lots of pictures and information about “Little Bit” when he or she arrives in October. Aunt Kristen and Uncle Craig – although I’m not sure Craig had much to do with it – nicknamed the baby “Little Bit”, thus the name of the blog. We’ll see if I can keep up with this better than my last blog! I think now that I have something to “concentrate” on, I’ll have better luck. But, time will tell.
I’ve also been toying with the idea of a “Photo a Day”, but again, time will tell.
So far I don’t feel pregnant at all. I know it may come on full force in the next few weeks, so I’m not writing off “morning” sickness altogether. I’ll be 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow, and that is when a lot of people start to get sick. Anyway, those of you who WERE very sick during your pregnancy and are cursing me right now, I’m sorry. But, I’m not out of the woods yet by any means.
So far all that I can tell is related to pregnancy is the insatiable pit in my stomach that CANNOT BE FILLED. I swear, I feel like I’m already a cow. I at all times have some sort of food in my hand. Right now I’m particularly partial to Rosemary Crostini and Andes mints. I also LOVE the Target smoothies. This may or may not be related to pregnancy, I was quite fond of those before, too, but it seems to be at a new level. But what this means is that I have to park the car (usually a half mile away from the door at our Target), make the hike to the snack area, have the nice young boy pour my $2 smoothie from the machine, and dredge back out to the car. This is hardly worth it to most people, but I swear it’s like a euphoria when I taste that Tropical Smoothie.
I also have some soreness, and my nose runs freaking constantly. Constantly. I hear this is a side effect, but I have no idea why.
The baby is the size of a sweet pea right now. It’s so weird to think that something so small has changed our lives so dramatically. I already touch my stomach all the time. Just to let the baby know I’m there.
I may be totally overreacting to all of my “symptoms” and all, but indulge me. This is my first go at this!
I would love to get advice/feedback on what’s going on. I figure the more I can know beforehand, the better. My friend Kimberly has been on speed dial the last week or so. I need more people to bug than her! I figure now you guys can post comments and so I can skip the call to Kimberly that says “Hey, I’m at Quiznos. Can I eat this?” or “Okay, my butt is growing exponentially already. Is this normal?”
So, indulge me. The things I write on here may not always be pretty, but they are real. They are happening to me and I want to document them. Feel free to give me your honest opinions and feedbacks. And hopefully we’ll laugh together a lot.

Hey now, I don’t want to lose my place on speed dial!! The first thing you learn when becoming a mother is that you don’t really know anything, so being able to answer your questions makes me feel like I know something! Another side effect off motherhood – rambling!! Seriously though, you know I love you and your questions and I am so excited to meet little bit!!

We are SOOOOOOO excited about this blog, we can barely stand it! Because we are so far away from you, it means so much to us that we will be able to keep up with little bit brown! We love you all so much!
Regarding the symptoms, I permanently had some sort of food in my mouth the first three months also! I was so sick from morning till night the first three months and the only time I felt any sort of relief was when I was stuffing my face with some sort of carbohydrate or comfort food.
You can call me too anytime, I love helping my pregnant friends out. Wait until you start wondering which bottles are best or if you really need this or that!

As we all know, I’m not pregnant, nor have I ever been, but here’s my nursing input! Your nose is running because you have more estrogen in your body than ever:
“Higher amounts of estrogen during pregnancy can contribute to swelling in the mucous membranes lining the nose and even cause you to make more mucus. What’s more, the amount of blood in your body increases and your blood vessels expand during pregnancy, which can lead to swollen nasal membranes as well. Other hormones may also play a role.”
I’m so excited for ya!

P.S. – If you become overcome with congestion…try a neti pot! (google it)

Kimberly, don’t worry. You have definitely not lost your place on speed dial. I only like to “think” I’ll be calling you less.
Mike and Jill, we were so glad to have your blog to keep up with what’s going on with you, and so you were a big reason for us starting this one! We love you and hope to see you very soon.
Kristina, thank you so much for that! I should have known nurse Kristina would set me straight. I’ll probably be calling you, too. And probably with the “grosser” questions. I’m sorry in advance!

Yay! I’m so glad you started this…I was going to suggest this and pretty much beg you to start your own during your pregnancy so I can hear the good bad and ugly. Love the title of it too!
I love Little Bit so much already! So excited I get to be a part of his/her life and to be a part of yours as you grow and experience all of this. Seriously can’t say that enough.
Love you!

I craved slushies, ices and slurpies. I worked in Buckhead and would drive home stopping by a 7/11, Majic Market and Dairy Queen all in one trip home. It was nothing to down 3 ice drinks a day.
I stopped all caffeine (including chocolate)… didn’t take one Tylenol during the entire 9 months.. waited out the flu with no meds… BUT due to my 9 month long craving of frozen flavored ice drinks, I put Kristen in sugar withdrawal right after she was born. So my words of advice … be careful of sugar!! Yet…maybe that is why she is so sweet now.. you think??? Congratulations again and again!!! This is going to be so much fun!!!

Second Mama Pam, thanks for the advice! I’ve been trying so hard. I did have a cup of coffee the other day (it was decaf) but everything I have read says its fine as long as you don’t have more than 2 cups a day. But I still felt totally guilty. So I totally know the feeling. I just know I’m going to do something all wrong.
Jessica, we are already starting to prepare Jack. I am so anxious to see how he reacts!
Kristen, I don’t even think you know how much Little Bit already loves you, too. It has been so humbling for you to be so supportive the last few weeks. You are seriously the best friend in the world!
Melanie, thanks so much for the kind words. I AM trying to cherish this, because I know it’s going to go so fast!

Congrats again, guys!
With Joseph I think that I put on 12 lbs during my first trimester, and I felt pretty great all the time. With this one I got really sick right at the 8 week mark and it lasted for 2 weeks straight. I still get a bit of it sometimes (13 weeks now). I have barely put on any weight at all this time but I crave everything and anything all the time…So, who knows? Every person and every pregnancy is different. So they say.

I am so thrilled for you and Josh. You both will make wonderful parents. Your blog is great and fun to read. It brought back many memories of my pregnancy years ago. Everybody’s pregnancy is different and what your body does is unique to you. Don’t apologize for that. Feel your feelings and express yourself in your blog and you’ll do great. I look forward to keeping up with you again.

Guuuuuurrrrlll!!! You eat and do whatever makes you feel good. I actually had zero appetite my first trimester, but made up for it and then some towards the end of my second trimester and then over did it in the third. Congestion is normal and so is peeing. I drank my Dr. Pepper in the morning everyday. I was just not worried about the caffine. I didn’t intake the stuff all day, but I didnt’ sweat my morning cola. Believe me- the stress of no Dr. Pepper in the morning was way worse for the baby than the caffine. However, if you can live without it- do- even if you’re not prego, limited caffine is a good thing.
I can’t wait to watch you blossom into the GEORGOUS pregger that you wil become. You are going to be precious. The best thing I did for myself while prego was to take a picture of my belly every week. I started at 12 weeks. I love looking at my scrapbook and seeing how my belly popped. And then one day Izzy can see what she did to mama’s “lady humps” (BOOBS & BUTT) LOL!!!
Love you and Josh (and Jack) and just so excited for yall!!!

Just found out about this from Josh, but thought I’d come say “congratulations” to you personally (or as personally as is possible like this). So, congratulations to you both, and best of luck!

I’m so excited for you too. Can’t wait to go through this with your mom – her grandbaby and my grandbaby. Hope you are feeling well. Tell Josh I said he had better take really good care of you, baby you all he can, because this is the last months it will only be you to baby. lol
You have my email, so let me hear from you and Josh sometime. I’ll keep checking in here to follow your progress.

Hey Anna. Henry and I just wanted to say congratulations. I know we haven’t seen you in forever and you probably don’t remember us but it’s hard to believe that the same little girl who use to play at Uncle Eli and Aunt Gertie’s campsite is now having a baby of her own. We are very excited for you. I saw your dad in Canton the other day and he was beaming with delight when he told me your wonderful news. Who would ever know by your mom’s emails that she is thrilled over this?? Anyway, we wanted to wish you guys the best.
Love ya,
Henry, Brigitte, Samantha, and Chandler Cook

Hey Anna,
This is Elizabeth, I grew up with Joshua…next door neighbors since as far back as my memory goes. We met at the wedding shower at his Mom and Dad’s house, and saw each other at Wal-Mart back around Christmas time if my memory serves me correctly. I have Facebook and due to three children, seldomly get a chance to check it, but just got on and saw the great news. I am so happy for you both that I’m sitting here soaked in tears right now! I have tons of childhood memories filled with Joshua, and I am so happy for you both. Josh and I fought like brother and sister growing up, so I am very eager for him to dive into parenthood and find out what it’s really all about! I have three of my own, and they are the most wonderful blessings! Jacob is 7.5, Abbie is 5.5 and Ethan is 15 months today, my very own little “Green Beans”! I am eager to follow your pregnancy blog. Please keep us posted on baby shower happenings down this direction!! I will have to stop by and see David and Pam tomorrow and give them a hug! I wish you a wonderful pregnancy!!! Please give Josh my love!!
Love to you both,
Elizabeth, Jonathan and Green Beans
